Begin by finding a comfortable position. Allow your body to settle—soften the shoulders, relax your hands, and gently close your eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose... and slowly exhale through your mouth. Let your breath begin to settle into a natural rhythm.
Now, bring your awareness to water. If you live near the ocean… a large lake… a flowing river… or a still pond… bring that place to mind. Feel yourself sitting nearby, hearing the sounds, sensing the air.
And if you are not near water, simply tune in to the water in your daily life: the stream of the shower… the coolness of your drinking water… or call on your imagination.
Picture the ocean. Feel its coolness… the power in its waves… the way it flows without resistance… Notice the deep calm beneath its surface. Even when the waves above are crashing, the body of the ocean is still and peaceful.
Now, invite those same qualities into your own body. Sense the energy of water within you. Feel it in your skin… your muscles… your bones. Let it bring relaxation.
Feel how water softens… how it moves around obstacles… how it welcomes what falls into it… how it rests in whatever holds it. Take a moment to rest in that feeling of ease.
Now recall a moment in your life when you felt agitated… Maybe you were with someone who upset you… Or in a meeting or social event where you felt tense or out of place.
Bring that moment to mind. But this time, let yourself stay connected to water. Feel that inner comfort, that calm fluidity… Let the situation play out, but you remain like the depths of the ocean—peaceful, steady, at ease.
When you next find yourself upset, critical, or anxious… remember this feeling. Call on water. It is always available. Even in dry places, the energy of water remains.
Water comforts. Like the earth, it brings stability. It accepts others. It accepts the moment. It accepts you. Water cleanses, purifies, and releases. It brings peace… comfort… and gentle joy. Rest for a few more breaths in this feeling of being held and supported by water.
As we come to the end of this practice, imagine that you have gathered merit simply by connecting with this element. Now, from the heart, offer that benefit to all beings.
May all beings be free from suffering.
May they find the path of peace.
May they know the deep comfort and compassion of water.
When you're ready, begin to return. Feel your body once again… Take a deep breath… And gently open your eyes.
