A copy of the card Thay gave to his monastics, complete with Thay’s seal.
“In 2012, Thay gave all of the monks and nuns a little white card that had “100%” written on it. It was a lovely reminder from him that the essence, the core, of the Plum Village practice is to be present, to be undivided, one hundred percent of the time. What a challenge this is for us in our modern society where we put such a value on multitasking, of not “wasting” a single second. Consciously choosing to do one thing at a time has become the ultimate countercultural and revolutionary act.
Children know how to mono-task, how to absorb themselves completely in whatever they are engaged in at the time. We have lost much of this wonder and become jaded.
In one sense, developing meditative concentration is about relearning how to mono-task. Whether we’re walking, sitting, standing, or whether we’re together with others, we are fully present, body and mind. We have arrived.
…
“The practice of arriving is a practice of allowing that “aaahhh” to manifest in each moment—each breath, each step. To be fully here. This one practice alone is worth a lifetime of practice. I call it “ahhh-riving.”
