This meditation focuses on the Anandamaya Kosha, the sheath of bliss, the body of joy. It is very much connected to the body of the heart.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on our intentions. So now, gently close your eyes. Bring your awareness into the space of the heart. Take a few deep breaths in and deep breaths out. Connect with your body – the body sitting here, the body breathing.
Begin to cultivate a heartfelt intention that these practices bring the greatest good – for ourselves and for all beings. May the greatest good unfold for everyone here.
The whole sangha is present, not restricted by physical space or time. Those near and far are also part of this mandala we are creating together. Let us hold the intention that our lives are enriched through this shared practice. May our bodies be completely healed. May our dreams come true.
May our heartfelt intentions, our sankalpas, manifest and arise swiftly – our deepest aspirations for enlightenment and freedom on our evolutionary path, as well as our personal aspirations connected to our individual journeys. Let them arise.
Let our motivation for practice be freedom from suffering – for ourselves and for all beings. May we abide in boundless love, immeasurable love, infinite love. May our capacity for empathy and compassion flow outward to all who are suffering, helping to ease their pain and bring healing. May we surround them with the energy of our hearts, with love, supporting their path toward peace, ease, and freedom.
Now bring to mind any other motivations you have for your practice during this time together.
Let them arise from your heart.
Now, take another deep breath in, filling the lungs fully. Pause gently at the top. Then exhale slowly and relax. Take a moment to feel your center. Again, take one or two deep breaths, pausing briefly at the top, and then enjoy the grounding that comes as you exhale – a sense of stillness within.
Continue breathing gently as you focus on the space of the heart. Connect with these words: Immeasurable love. You might also resonate with the phrase infinite love.
In many Buddhist and yogic traditions, the phrase immeasurable love is used because it reflects our connection to all beings. Infinite love speaks to the vastness of this experience. Whichever resonates with you, allow the words to move beyond language and into feeling.
The realm of the Anandamaya Kosha is beyond words – it is a realm of direct experience. Allow the vibration of these words to awaken the feeling within your heart. Feel this heartfelt sense of infinite love – boundless, open. Allow the sensation of this love to rise in your heart.
Experience the profound nature of this love: its purity, its softness, the light that may arise with these words. Perhaps you feel warmth. Perhaps a quiet strength or power. Immeasurable love. Notice how unconditional it feels. How eternal it feels. Sense how deeply connected it is to everything that exists. Feel yourself completely embraced by this infinite love.
Allow this sensation to expand throughout your entire body, touching every cell. Immeasurable love. Feel it connecting you to everyone and everything. Let it move beyond the body and into the space around you. Infinite love.
Sense that this is the nature of reality itself. All things are pure in their nature. I am pure in my nature. Infinite love.
Now begin to cultivate gratitude for this knowing. Allow a sense of gratitude to arise for this precious human life – a life that has the capacity to recognize and experience immeasurable love.
Feel gratitude arising in your heart. Experience the beauty of gratitude. As the breath rises and falls, feel gratitude for the preciousness of each breath. Notice the space between the breaths, and the infinite love that is present there. Let gratitude seep into every part of the body.
Gratitude carries us into a sense of timelessness. Feel the wonder of it. The joy. The quiet elation. A deep satisfaction in simply being you. Allow this gratitude to create a sense of peace within you. A feeling of harmonious connection. Notice how complete and whole you feel within this gratitude.
Take a few more breaths here, resting in the sensations of gratitude and infinite love.
Now bring your hands together in Anjali Mudra, prayer hands at the heart. Let your awareness rest in the small space between the hands and the heart. Sense infinite love and gratitude there – immeasurable love, joy, compassion, and deep empathy. Feel this balanced state, this peace within you.
Recognize the capacity within you for all that you are becoming on your evolutionary path – moving toward swift enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. Not only for your own sake, but for all. Remember that this life is precious. We do not know how long we will have in this embodiment. So let us make the best use of our time, holding the motivation for awakening and for the benefit of all beings.
Let us experience each breath, each moment, as deeply precious. If you have personal motivations or sankalpas, bring them to mind now as we begin this time together.
And now we will chant Om three times – the universal sound of the heart. Take a deep breath in. Om. Om. Om.
Then offer a deep bow to your own heart – to its infinite wisdom and compassion. Gently open your eyes. Thank you all for being here.
