First, we do the preliminary prayers. These prayers are: establishing a boundary, refuge, generating bodhicitta, and lama, yidam, and khandro prayers. All of these together we call “preliminary prayers.” The prayers can be found at the bottom of this page.
Second, sit in the seven point body posture. The legs crossed, hand in equipoise, backbone straight, stomach pressed in, neck bent, tongue joining the upper plate, and shoulders lifted back.
Third, generate yourself as khandro Thugje Kundrol through the Sambhogakaya Hollow Interior Practice.
Now for the five round breaths.
First, within the visualization as Thugje Kundrol, practice dispelling obstacles. To do this, first inhale through both nostrils. Let the breath travel down the left and right channels until it reaches the junction of the three channels and hold the breath there for as long as you can. When you are unable to hold, exhale and let the breath come up both channels and out both nostrils.
When you exhale, imagine that the breath from the two nostrils emanate as countless weapons of fire – a mountain of fire weapons. These weapons of fire burn up all outer, inner, and secret obstacles and dissolve into the expanse of the nature of reality. This is the practice of dispelling obstacles.
Outer obstacles refers to enemies, and obstructing forces. Outer enemies are those who do harm to you, or disturb your practice and wishes. Obstructing forces are those who cause harm including male and female miraculous demons. This includes all physical harm and disturbances and those non-physical forces that can harm and disturb us.
Inner obstacles refer to that which block our inner elements and cause the elements within us to be imbalanced. This can cause illness.
Secret obstacles refer to afflictive emotions.
Second, we generate the wisdom fire tent. As khandro Thugje Kundrol, inhale through both nostrils. Let the breath travel down the left and right channels until it reaches the junction of the three channels and hold the breath there for as long as you can. When you are unable to hold, exhale and let the breath come up both channels and out both nostrils.
When you exhale, imagine that the breath becomes countless ར RAM syllables. Next these countless RAM syllables transform into the wisdom fire tent. This is the practice of generating the wisdom fire tent.
Third, we generate the wheel tent. As khandro Thugje Kundrol, inhale through both nostrils. Let the breath travel down the left and right channels until it reaches the junction of the three channels and hold the breath there for as long as you can. When you are unable to hold, exhale and let the breath come up both channels and out both nostrils.
When you exhale, imagine that the breath becomes countless PHET syllables. These PHET syllables transform into a wheel tent. This wheel tent is inside the wisdom fire tent. At the top of the wheel tent are sharp spokes. Imagine on these spokes countless action khandros. These action khandros are dark blue and facing outward. They are fiercely showing that they will kill if you disturb and make obstacles to practice.
Action khandros means Enlightened beings who abide and move within the world.
Fourth, we generate the weapon tent. As khandro Thugje Kundrol, inhale through both nostrils. Let the breath travel down the left and right channels until it reaches the junction of the three channels and hold the breath there for as long as you can. When you are unable to hold, exhale and let the breath come up both channels and out both nostrils.
When you exhale, imagine that the breath becomes countless HUNG syllables. These HUNG syllables transform into a weapon tent. This weapon tent is made up of many swords and arrows all facing outward in a net of sharp points. Inside the net of the weapons crossed together, imagine countless magical khandros. Their color is dark red, they are facing outward and they perform the function of dispelling obstacles. Here the word for dispelling obstacles is “dokpa” which is a special kind of ritual for dispelling all obstacles by way of the power of naturally dispelling. This is different from the previous dispelling through burning. Here it is the magical power of the khandros that naturally dispel all obstacles.
Magical khandros abide in the boundary between the world and beyond the world – between samsara and nirvana.
Fifth, we generate the yungdrung tent. As khandro Thugje Kundrol, inhale through both nostrils. Let the breath travel down the left and right channels until it reaches the junction of the three channels and hold the breath there for as long as you can. When you are unable to hold, exhale and let the breath come up both channels and out both nostrils.
When you exhale, imagine that the breath becomes countless SO syllables. These SO syllables transform into a net of yungdrung tent. Inside the net of yungdrung tent are countless wisdom khandros. They are many colors of red and white and face inward. They are performing the function of protecting your practice.
Wisdom khandros abide beyond the world and beyond samsara.
