In order to lead sentient beings to liberation,
And that the teachings remain,
All the Buddhas and Sempas,
I pray that you remain forever.
The literal translation of this section says “praying that they don’t go beyond suffering” meaning this life.
“In order to lead sentient beings to liberation,”
The purpose of this prayer is that the Buddha's teachings spread and increase, and that the holders of the teachings will teach and engage in the practice. All lamas and geshes will remain for a long time. All of the followers rejoice in their teachings and all sentient beings follow them until complete enlightenment. This is the purpose.
“And that the teachings remain,”
May the precious teachings of the Buddhas spread everywhere in this world and remain for a long time.
“All the Buddhas and Sempas, I pray that you remain forever.”
The Buddhas, yundrung sempas (bodhisattvas), lamas, and geshes – may they show us, through the death of their physical body, to teach those who grasp at the impermanent self so that their minds come to the Buddha’s teaching. May they not pass away and remain for a long time benefitting us and all sentient beings.
