Takla Mebar
Before you recite the mantra, read the description and connect with the energy of Takla Mebar. Once you have memorized the imagery, you may not need to read this part but in the beginning it is helpful. Once you have connected with Takla Mebar, recite the mantra. There are several mantras, a main mantra and several additional mantras. The additional mantras you can recite each three, five, or seven times. You can recite the main mantra for as long as you wish.
You can consider the recitation of the mantra as a communication between you and Takla Mebar. It connects you to the energy of Takla Mebar. When we recite the mantra, we connect with and communicate with the Wisdom Takla Mebar through a secret language. Mantra recitation practice is a samadhi practice, a practice of concentration.
When you are finished there is a dissolution stage followed by completion stage meditation on emptiness. Sit connected with the nature of mind for as long as you can. Then recite the praise and dedicate the merit to end your session.
“The rays of light radiate from the SO. Having hit the object of protection and melted into light, it then dissolves into the SO of one’s heart, dissolving consciousness. Visualize Tonpa Shenrab on the crown of your head.”
When you do the recitation, imagine a SO syllable in the space in your heart. Surrounding the SO syllable vertically is the mantra rotating counterclockwise. You can imagine this mantra spinning counterclockwise like a ring of fire in your chest around your heart. It is like a ring of fire flaming in your chest. Feel this warmth spinning in your chest, burning away any struggles & negative emotions by the fires of wisdom.
Then after the recitation, all the flames, fire, and mantra goes back into the SO in the heart. Then you can imagine the Buddha sitting above your head. Then slowly, slowly visualize your mandala, and all other visualizations dissolve into light, and then into emptiness our nature of mind. All the energies just dissolve into space. Let the empty space in your heart and all around you hold all these energies from our practice.
There are four different mantras. The first mantra is the main mantra of Takla Mebar. This is the mantra that connects us to the yidam Takla Mebar. This is the primary mantra used in recitation practice. The second mantra is the protection mantra. While all four mantras are protection mantras, this second mantra’s main focus is on protection. This is the mantra that connects us to the protectors. The third mantra is the retinue mantra. This is the mantra that connects us with the 18 manifestations of Takla Mebar which form his retinue. This is symbolized by the 18 petals in the lotus on the mandala. The final mantra is the ultimate secret mantra. This mantra is not used in recitation often. It is mostly used in dokpa rituals to return obstacles such as the dokpa ritual done on New Year’s Eve to return all obstacles accumulated in the year. This fourth mantra and practice is for deep cleansing of any obstacles and karmic traces.
So when you are practicing you should mostly chant the first main mantra. If you are using all four, perhaps you can recite the main mantra 1,000 times a day, the protection mantra, 700 times a day, the retinue mantra 500 times a day, and the ultimate secret mantra 150 times a day. That is a good balanced ratio to work with.
Recite three times SO SO SO in the state of emptiness. Visualize light radiating from the SO in your crown. Visualize the light radiating from the SO is burning all the gods and evil spirits of existence. It gathers inwards and again dissolves into oneself. Oneself transforming into the form of Takla Mebar. The red colored body is burning the mass of flames of the eons. The hundreds and thousands of hairs of the fur coat of the tiger, is radiating various colors of weapons.
The flame of fire is gathering on the peak of existence. Three fierce eyes are glaring angrily, and the white fangs are like a threatening crescent moon. The right hand spins a golden wheel, while the left hand holds the nine kinds of swords.
Visualize the terrifying body and the majestic Mandala of weapons. In the golden box of its heart, visualize a black SO syllable. Visualize that it is surrounded by the protection mantra. The immeasurable rays of light radiate outwards, and dissolves into the object of protection and transforms oneself into the body of Takla Mebar.
Visualize in front of oneself a combining of two lights which radiate out and burn all the evil creatures of the universe By gathering them inwardly. Visualize the Mandala of the Yungdrungs having nine layers, one on top of the other.
From the window of the Yungdrung Mandala melted gold appears. Visualize that evil forces can not harm you. Rays of light radiating outwards from the pure heart, are burning all the arrogance of the universe. While gathering inwards, visualize the nine layers of the Mandala transforming into weapons. In that visualization all the entrances and windows are filled with wrathfulness.
Again light radiates out from the pure heart, and visualize that all the universes are burned. While gathering inwards, the light turns into the thousand spokes of a golden wheel. Visualize it circling the outer Mandala of weapons.
Again, rays of light radiate to oneself like previously, and burn all the arrogant deities of the universe. The light returns to you and is sent out again where It transforms into the thousand spoked wheel of fire and burns the upper god and demi-god realms.
It also burns the middle gods and evil spirits, and it burns all the lower harmful spirits of the hell, hungry ghosts and animal realms. Rays of light radiate from the pure heart of SO. Visualize uncountable fire wings of Takla Mebar filling the space.
Again, rays of light radiate out, while visualizing uncountable hot and cold winds from the wings of Takla Mebar which fill the space. Again, rays of light radiate out, and uncountable wings of swords from Takla Mebar fill the ground.
Again, rays of light gather inwards, and transform into the glorious and magnificent speech saying “protect” and the sound echoes.

SO! Since the beginning of cosmic time, the divine castle was assembled by a mass of flames. Inside the nine protective walls is a sphere Mandala. The fierce, wrathful tiger deity body Is magnificently surrounded by flames, with one face and two arms. A sword and wheel encircles the hand.
From the center of the precious heart amulet, light rays manifest from the SO to the ten directions spreading to all the worlds, scorching them. Then they are reabsorbed into the changless wrathful items.
With the gathering in of the wheel and the fire mountain, evil entities in the field are liberated abiding on the crown is the body of enlightenment, endowed with immutable changless life. Little hairs are radiant with wrathful energy.
By the radiating projections and the gathering of the rays of the light, in all places, those to be tamed are scorched without any remaining residue. However, together with the reciting of the mantra and making offerings corrupted evil entities are crushed into a particle of dust. Please accept our praise and bestow the blessings.
I dedicate all this perfect virtue of my three doors, So that all sentient beings may obtain unsurpassable enlightenment. I dedicate this within the non-referential blissful space, which is free of the three spheres of subject, object, and action. May all become equal with the primordial state!
