Sit in the five-fold body posture. For the five-fold posture, slightly bend the neck down, shoulders back, back straight, hands in the equipoise posture, left hand on top of the right hand (women do right on top of left), with just the fingers touching four fingers width below the navel. We can close our eyes, or we can keep our eyes open. Both are okay. But we just can’t let our mind go out through the eyes to the objects we see. When we open our eyes, we can see but our mind stays home and does not follow what we see.
If that is a bit difficult, the main point is to keep the spine straight. If we can sit with our spine straight, we can sit grounded and stable. When the spine is straight the body is comfortable, fresh, and open.
If the body is comfortable, our channels will be comfortable. If our channels are comfortable, our fluids will be comfortable. When all of these are comfortable, our mind can be comfortable too. That is why we relax the body.
Next, there is no need to have any motivation, nothing to do, no need to meditate. We are just going to give ourselves some space. To make some space and connect with the openness of mind. If we make some space, then that space is the path to the nature state of mind. Any ideas, thoughts, motivations, creations, connecting to objects, are all obstacles of this meditation. This is why it’s called non-meditation.
So sit comfortably upright and still, and relax into the natural silence. Stay naturally without fabrication and without mixing anything. Do not create or modify the mind in any way. Do not try to connect or put effort into the meditation. Do not connect with or follow any thoughts or memories. Don’t feel “I am meditating.” Listen to the silence of the mind, but not with your ears. That silence is the natural sound of the mind.
Feel the space. That space is the natural body of the mind. Feel the clarity. That clarity is the bliss of the nature of the mind. Keep that stillness.
Don’t block the movement of the mind. No need to know if you are connected or not. It connects itself without any sign or information. Just give yourself some space.
Now just relax. Relax the body. Feel the trust in your practice.
